As others have suggested, look to get a vehicle.
— we've had the chance to enjoy the the 5th generation explorer on multiple occasions and we were in detroit to welcome in the latest iteration.
My goal is to be able to not get stuck in the mud and fields i work in daily.
— as i don’t plan on doing any major off roading in it, it still fits the bill.

— there is virtually no aftermarket support for making a 5th gen explorer off road worthy.
I have a suburban now & often have to kick it into 4wd to get through the loose sand.

I need a bigger vehicle to be able to fit the whole family and carry kayaks on top, so the explorer looks good for this.
— the new explorer either requires a series of clicks on the left controller to turn off the alert or to simply put the car in reverse endure the tone in my ears while i make several.
The drive train just isn't built to allow it.
— i haven't done anything like this since high school shop class!
