Unfortunately, many of them were demolished to make way for the expansion of the prosperous downtown.

We work to keep historic buildings and spaces intact, so these places and their stories are woven into the fabric of our evolving city.

Yet, in hindsight, the new parks—hippies included—energized the body politic to reshape downtown portland.
