Hello, i’m planning on buying a flintlock kentucky rifle for sport shooting and hunting.

Otherwise known as the kentucky or pennsylvania rifle.

Heated vegetable oil in a coffee can to 250 degrees, took the can off heat and let about 5 of the wide end of the horn sit.

Cut threads onto the tip of the horn (first time doing that) and screwed it on tight.

So my personal opinion is that 38 is the absolute shortest.

I understand it’s possible to use lead, bismuth, or another soft metal birdshot, but iirc the spread dramatically increases due to the damage rifling does to shot.
